RELEVANCE

Microdata from the Australian Health Survey (AHS) 2011-12 are available in TableBuilder and in an Expanded CURF. This release contains microdata from the core combined content of the National Nutrition and Physical Activity Survey (NNPAS) 2011-12 and National Health Survey (NHS) 2011-12 components of the AHS, including biomedical data from the National Health Measures Survey (NHMS) component of the AHS. This includes information on household demographics, Socio-Economic Indexes for Area (SEIFA), education qualifications, occupation, industry, country of birth, general dietary information, physical measures, selected long-term medical conditions, smoker status, dietary behaviours, selected health risk factors, and biomedical information.

The level of detail provided for data items in each microdata product are available in the data item lists, which are available in Excel spreadsheet format from the Downloads page of this product. These should be referenced when making decisions on the product to purchase. Items not available on the Expanded CURF may be available on the TableBuilder database or in tabulated form on request.

TIMELINESS

The 2011-12 combined AHS for the general population was conducted between March 2011 and September 2012. The TableBuilder product was released approximately 19 months after the final component (NHMS) completed collection and the Expanded CURF was released approximately 25 months after the final component (NHMS) completed collection.

ACCURACY

The microdata contains greater detail which combines core content topics found in the Australian Health Survey: First Results - 4364.0.55.001 - 2011-12, the Australian Health Survey: Updated Results - 4364.0.55.003 - 2011-2012, the Australian Health Survey: Physical Activity, 2011-12 (cat. no. 4364.0.55.004), the Australian Health Survey: Biomedical Results for Chronic Diseases - 4364.0.55.005 - 2011-12 and the Australian Health Survey: Biomedical Results for Nutrients - 4364.0.55.006 - 2011-12. For more information on the level of detail provided for the microdata see the associated data item lists on the Downloads page of this product.

Steps to confidentialise the data made available in the microdata products are taken in such a way as to maximise the usefulness of the content while maintaining the confidentiality of respondents selected in the survey. As a result, it may not be possible to exactly reconcile all the statistics produced from the microdata with other published statistics. Further information about the steps taken to confidentialise the TableBuilder microdata is available on the TableBuilder confidentiality page of the User Manual: TableBuilder, Jun 2013 (cat. no. 1406.0.55.005).
