  • In 2016-17, net overseas migration (NOM) reflected an annual gain of 262,500 persons, 27.3% (56,300) more than in 2015-16.
  • An estimated 376,700 people moved interstate in 2016-17, an increase of 1.3% from the previous year.
  • Updated information and data cubes on the overseas-born residents of Australia, based on the 2016 Census of Population and Housing, is scheduled for release within this publication on 20 September 2018.
