About these datasets

These datasets contain:

  • the projected population by living arrangement,
  • the projected number of families by family type, and
  • the projected number of households by household type,

for Statistical Local Areas (SLAs) in Australia, for the period 1999-2019 produced by the ABS according to assumptions agreed to by the Commonwealth Department of Health and Aged Care. The SLA boundaries are those that existed at the 1996 Census of Population and Housing (ASGC 1996).

There is only one series for these projections. It was assumed that the living arrangement propensities observed at the 1996 Census of Population and Housing would remain unchanged throughout the projection period. These propensities were applied to the SLA population projections. The population projections used are consistent at the Capital City and Balance of State/Territory level with Series II in Population Projections, Australia 1999-2101 (Cat. No. 3222.0).

These datasets do not include figures for the 'Other Territories' of Jervis Bay, Christmas Island and Cocos (Keeling) Islands. Therefore when summing data for all SLAs in the living arrangement dataset, the figures will be different to the Australian total in Population Projections, Australia 1999-2101 (Cat. No. 3222.0).

Using this Dataset with SuperTABLE

When creating your own table from this SuperTABLE you must select at least one value from each of the following fields:
  • At 30 June,
  • SLA Code.

Failure to do this will result in incorrect data in your table.
