NSW has the highest number of sheep and lambs of any state. At 30 June 2007, the number of sheep and lambs in New South Wales was 28.6 million.

At 30 June 2007, most sheep and lambs in NSW were found in the Central West SD (5.4 million) followed by the North Western SD with 4.7 million.
