  • The area of land used for agriculture in Australia fell by 1% in 2011-12, to 405 million hectares.
  • The area planted to crops in Australia remained steady in 2011-12 at 32.0 million hectares.
  • Approximately 53% of Australia's total land area was used for agriculture. Of all the states, Tasmania had the smallest proportion of agricultural land (24% of state area), while the highest was in Queensland (79% of state area).
