The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) conducted the 2011-12 Agricultural Resource Management Survey (ARMS) last year.

The ARMS forms part of the ABS' suite of agricultural collections and is designed to collect agricultural commodity information and land management practices on Australian farms.


RESULTS FROM 2011-12 ARMS

Some results from the 2011-12 ARMS were published on 31 May 2013 and can be found in the publications:



On 28 June 2013, land management practices data will be released in the publication: Land Management and Farming in Australia, 2011-12 (cat. no. 4627.0).

Data about the gross value of agricultural commodities that are produced with the assistance of irrigation will be released in the publication: Gross Value of Irrigated Agricultural Production, 2011-12 (cat. no. 4610.0.55.008) on 3 October 2013.

HOW ARE RESULTS PRESENTED?

Results are presented in spreadsheet (data cube) and html format on the following basis:
  • states, territories and Australia for all publications
  • Water Use on Australian Farms, 2011-12 (cat. no. 4618.0) also includes data for the Murray-Darling Basin area
  • small area commodity, value, water and land management data will be released in .csv format later in 2013.


DATA ITEMS

The 2011-12 ARMS collects data about core commodities, including:
  • area, production and value of major crops
  • industry structure
  • number and value of livestock
  • area irrigated
  • land management practices


SMALL AREA GEOGRAPHIES COMING SOON

Small area data will be presented for the following geographies:
  • Australian Statistical Geography Standard (ASGS) - specifically Statistical Area 4 (SA4)
  • Natural Resource Management (NRM) region
