CHAPTER 7 – REVIEW SCHEDULE


INTRODUCTION

7.1 This review provides an opportunity for public involvement in the ongoing evolution of the producer and international trade price indexes. This chapter presents a detailed timetable for the review.


SEPTEMBER TO OCTOBER 2011

Release paper
7.2 Release and widely distribute this information paper to index users. Invite organisations or individuals to make written submissions, by 14 October 2011, on any aspect of the review.

Undertake consultation
7.3 In addition to releasing this paper, there will be two stages in the formal consultative process: i) inviting public submissions; and ii) discussion of issues with the key data users.


DECEMBER 2011

Finalise outcomes
7.4 Final decisions on the outcome of the review issues must be made by the ABS by the end of December 2011 in order to complete the work required to introduce the new series in the September quarter 2012.


FEBRUARY 2012

Communicate outcomes
7.5 An information paper, Outcome of the Producer and International Trade Price Index Review, will set out the review results.


MAY 2012

Estimate new weights
7.6 The new weighting patterns for the PPIs based on 2007/08 Input-Output data will be derived.


AUGUST 2012

Link series
7.7 The process of linking the old and the new PPI series is an important component of the implementation of the review. This task cannot be completed until the June quarter 2012 PPI and ITPI are published in late July 2012.


OCTOBER 2012

Introduce re-weighted series
7.8 The re-weighted series will be introduced in respect of the September quarter 2012.


LATE 2012

Publish updated guide
7.9 An updated Producer and International Trade Price Index Concepts, Sources and Methods publication will be released in due course.
