9. 'Sources of income' is collected at a broad level in the short income module, at a narrower level in the basic income module and in detail in the detailed income module used in the Survey of Income and Housing and the Household Expenditure Survey.


STANDARD INPUT CATEGORIES

10. The Detailed income module, used in the ABS Survey of Income and Housing (SIH) and the Household Expenditure Survey (HES), collects a separate value for each source of income allowing input at the desired level of the classification.

11. The Basic income module collects 'Sources of income' data in enough detail to support input at the broad and narrow levels of the classification, but not the detailed level. The following tables map the response categories in the Basic question modules to the broad and narrow level of the Classification.

12. Responses to question 1 in the Short income module can be mapped directly to the standard Classification at the broad level, with the exception of response category 4, 'Any other regular source?', which maps to the broad source '9 Other income'.
