This article provides a brief overview of the health of older people in Australia (people aged 65 years and over). Older people are forming an increasing proportion of the Australian population, with this increase projected to continue until at least 2051. Where possible data will be presented in age sub-groups to explore differences within the age structure. Information for this article is drawn from the ABS 2001 and 2004-05 National Health Surveys, the 2003 Survey of Disability, Ageing and Carers, the 2004-05 National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Survey, and the ABS Causes of Death collection.
