This research paper compares the quality of linking two Vocational Education and Training (VET) in Schools datasets containing different levels of geography with 2011 Census of Population and Housing data. The Australian Bureau of Statistics was provided with access to the 2011 VET in Schools datasets by the National Centre for Vocational Education and Research and the Queensland Curriculum Assessment Authority. The study concluded that more detailed geography on VET in Schools data leads to improved linkage rates and quality when linking to Census data. This paper provides background to the study, a description of the linkage strategy and process, and an assessment of the quality of the linkage. Recommendations for future data integration projects are also discussed
