Meat cattle are raised throughout NSW with the highest concentration in the Northern Statistical Division (SD). At 30 June 2007, the NSW meat cattle herd stood at 5.6 million.

At 30 June 2007, 32% of meat cattle in NSW were found in the Northern SD (1.8 million). This was followed by the Central West SD and the North Western SD with 629,000 and 541,000 respectively.
