Wheat is grown predominantly west of the Great Dividing Range, extending along the centre of NSW from the Northern Statistical Division (SD) down to the Murray SD. In 2006-07, production fell to 2.6 million tonnes.

In 2006-07, 41% of all wheat produced in NSW came from the Northern SD (1.0 million tonnes). This was followed by the Murrumbidgee SD with 0.5 million tonnes.
