First results from 2001 Census to be released June 17 - VIC

The first results from the 2001 Census, will officially be released back to the Victorian community next week on Monday, June 17, 2002 by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS).

Details:

Who: The Victorian Regional Director Vince Lazzaro and John Landy, A.C., M.B.E., Governor of Victoria

What: To celebrate the national launch of the first results from the 2001 Census of Population and Housing

When: Monday, June 17, 2002 at 10.00am (EST)

Where: State Library of Victoria, Village Roadshow Theatrette, La Trobe St, Melbourne

Why: The 2001 Census of Population and Housing was held on Tuesday 7 August last year and is a comprehensive snapshot of Australia. It provides a primary source of information used by a wide range of government and non-government organisations alike in planning for the future.

Vision opportunities: Besides the speeches and interview prospects a special presentation will be made to George Lekakis, Multicultural Affairs Commissioner for Victoria as a representative from the Victorian community who relies on the census results to plan for Australia's future.

File footage showing data processing, census form destruction and census collectors at work will be distributed to media this week. High resolution images will be made available through AAP on the day.
