    OVERVIEW
The Award Rates of Pay Indexes were compiled from data obtained from wage fixing authorities, both federal and State, relating to variations in prescribed award wages and hours. The indexes were processed monthly to produce the publication 6312.0. The target population was adult males and females employed full-time. The publication provided weekly and hourly award pay indexes by industry, occupation and State.

    PURPOSE
The series provided weekly and hourly award rates of pay for full time adult wage and salary earners.

    SCOPE
Full time adult employees, classified by industry, occupation, state and sex for weekly and hourly award rates of pay.

    DATA DETAIL

    Conceptual framework
The indexes are based on the industry and occupation structure of employment existing in May 1985.

    Main outputs
Two types of index series were produced namely weekly and hourly, based on weekly rates of pay and hourly rates of pay (where they existed or were created by use of standard weekly award hours data).

    Classifications
Information about the industry and occupation of individual employees, on the award under which they were covered and their award classification, was collected. This information was used to stratify classifications by industry, occupation and State as a part of a sample design which ensured that the indexes could be produced at a satisfactory level of reliability for all cross-classifications included in the series. The weighting pattern of the indexes was determined at the award classification level. The weights applied to the award classifications included in the indexes were based on employment benchmarks from the Survey of Employee Earnings and Hours.
