Release 2 Available!

The second release of Census KeyData, a CD-ROM product developed from the 1996 Census, is scheduled for release in April. It gives clients on-demand access to a wide selection of 1996 Census data and Shapes Digital Boundaries.

Census KeyData Release 2 contains all of the data contained in Release 1 plus second release data from the Basic Community Profile and other profile data. Information can be obtained about Australia from the national to neighbourhood level- making the information useful to meet planning needs of governments, regional authorities and anyone requiring small area data.

Free access is provided to the Census Dictionary, Directory of Census Statistics, ABS Catalogue of Publications and Products, product demonstrations and sample data. Statistical data and Shapes Digital Boundary data stored on the CD-ROM are encrypted and accessible with a decryption key. This allows clients to pay only for the specific data they need as well as the flexibility to order as required.
Available for purchase from Census KeyData Release 2:

All KeyData release 1 content plus:
  • Basic Community Profile - including family and labour force characteristics*
  • Time Series Profile
  • Final Estimated Resident Population
  • Classifications Counts
  • Selected 1996 Census Digital Boundaries at the 'Shapes' level.
*Due to space limitations on the ROM, MapInfo format will not be available for the BCP. MapInfo users will be able to use the CSV files contained on the ROM.
The decrypted data can be imported directly into a wide range of spreadsheets and analytical software, including Excel and Lotus 123. Census KeyData can also be used in conjunction with the ABS' IRDB and CDATA96.

The shapes boundary data can be used with MapInfo based software products such as the mapping package contained in Excel 7 and MapInfo Desktop. CPROFILE software is provided free to enable you to view, manipulate and print data tables or export selected data items for use with your own software.

Census KeyData means you are only a few steps away from the data you need for all your research, planning and decision-making needs.
        With Census KeyData you can determine;
      • How many females aged 25-29 live in Randwick; or
      • The change in individual weekly income in Brunswick; or
      • The number of people who speak Polish in Meekatharra.

These are just some of the many questions that can be answered with Census KeyData.
    *Even more datasets will be
    included in Release 3,
    available in September 1998.

    Free copies of Census
    KeyData Release 2 CD-ROM
    are available from ABS
    Bookshops or by faxing your
    request to Marketing Services
    on (02) 6252 8009.

The data contained in Census KeyData are invaluable in helping governments and business to effectively plan, develop and conduct research.
