i) The CMC SWG publication, Cultural Funding in Australia - Three Tiers of Government 1998-1999, provides Commonwealth, State/Territory and local government breakdowns of public funding. Details of recurrent and capital expenditure and funding per head of population by each category of cultural activity are shown. Compared with past reports in this series, this report contains a new section that presents comprehensive time series data. The report is expected to be released in October 2000.

ii) The SRMC publication, Employment in Sport and Recreation, is expected to be released on 9 November. In the publication, "sport and recreation" is defined broadly to include people in medicine, law, journalism and teaching who specialise in sport. To derive the estimates of the number of people employed in sport and recreation, both ABS and non-ABS data were used.

iii) The ABS publication, Participation in Sport and Physical Activities, Australia, 1999-2000 (ABS Cat. no. 4177.0), is expected to be released on 24 October. It presents information on participation in sport and physical activities by Australian adults during the 12 months prior to interview. The data were obtained during 1999-2000 via the Population Survey Monitor.

Details were also obtained on children's involvement in other leisure activities such as watching TV and videos, bike riding, skateboarding and rollerblading, learning a musical instrument, taking singing or dancing lessons and use of information technology.
