Canberrans have equal highest household income: ABS


Canberrans had the equal highest average gross household incomes in Australia during 2003-04, according to a new analysis released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) today.

Both the Australian Capital Territory and Northern Territory recorded weekly household incomes of around $1,400 a week, compared with the national average of $1,128.

ACT households also had the highest average equivalised disposable income of any capital city in Australia at $670 per week, followed by Darwin ($640) and Sydney ($620). The national average was $580 per week (see media note).

In contrast, the average net worth of Canberra households ($505,000) was only just above the national average ($503,000) (see media note).
